African Tribal Music is a solid if nondescript collection of traditional African chants and rhythms. Some of the titles are a little lurid ("Drums of Passion," "White Zombie," and "Witch Doctor" seem more like B-movies), but by and large the set offers a good overview of its subject.5/

Nov 25,  · The first installment in our Great Grooves series, Gahu (Gah-HOO) is a recreational style of music of the Ewe (EH-way) people of Ghana, Togo, and Benin. Because Gahu belongs to a folk tradition, different renditions and interpretations abound, not merely between neighbouring countries and regions, but even neighbouring villages.

Gahu: Background and Instruments. According to Ewe Master Drummer Emmanuel Agbeli of Kopeyia, Ghana, Gahu is an adaptation of Kokosawa, an older African drum-and-dance style that originated with the Yoruba people of Nigeria. In his telling, the Ewe took Kokosawa and increased the tempo to more than double its original value, resulting in the much livelier Gahu.

Gahu (translated as money music because of its social character and elaborate costumes) is the traditional dance music of the Ewe (pronounced a-way) people that inhabit the Volta Region of Ghana on the continent of Africa.

Mar 18,  · It uses solely African instruments, which are organized into symphonic-like sections and led by a conductor (i.e Nana Danso). Its creations are presented in an artistic, rather than dance music, context. The orchestra’s repertoire includes Nana’s own compositions and his arrangements of traditional songs.
